The 1st Annual PEAK PERFORMANCE Athlete Development Camp was held on Saturday and Sunday October 11-12, 2008 at the Northeast Sports Training Complex in Warwick, Rhode Island. The event, sponsored by Advanced Taekwondo Systems and sanctioned by USA Taekwondo, was a resounding success. USA Olympic Team Coach Juan Moreno directed the camp and put together a superb Olympic-style sparring curriculum. The coaching staff consisted of National Team Coaches Peter Bardatsos, Eui Lee and Dong Lee along with National Team member Antony Graf.
A total of 85 Taekwondo athletes from the United States and Canada participated in the camp. Fourteen states were represented including: Puerto Rico, Texas, Florida, Minnesota, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. There were 24 Senior and 61 Junior Division athletes. Of the Juniors, 33 were in the thirteen & under group with 28 between 14-17 years of age. Along with the competitors, numerous Taekwondo instructors and approximately sixty parents were in attendance.
Following the seminar, an outdoor reception was held for the coaches, athletes and parents. The weather and food was great! Best of all was the opportunity to interact with so many Taekwondo enthusiasts both on and off the mat. In the end, it was a productive and rewarding experience for everyone.
We look forward to the 2nd Annual PEAK PERFORMANCE Athlete Development Camp to be held on Labor Day weekend September 5-6, 2009.
